RESEARCH INITIATIVES

Keltron Component Complex Ltd (KCCL) was involved in the research for the development of Supercapacitor Technology for many years.

• KCCL is associated with a Government of India funded research project of a national R&D C-MET (Centre for Development of Materials) named “Development of Aerogel Supercapacitors” as an Industrial partner in 2014. The other partners were “Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and Department of Science and Technology (DST). The project successfully concluded in July 2018.

• KCCL was associating with Naval Materials Research Laboratory (NMRL) of Defence Research & Development Organization (DRDO) of India, for a long time in the Supercapacitor Technology. We have received the first order of Rs.17.5 Lakhs from NMRL in August 2018 for the fabrication and supply of 400 numbers of 1600F, 2.7V Supercapacitors using their technology, which was executed successfully.

• KCCL was associating with Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), for a long time in the Supercapacitor Technology. An MOU was signed in November 2017 for support in the pilot scale fabrication of Supercapacitors.

• KCCL signed an Agreement for Transfer of Technology from Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) on 14th August 2020 for manufacturing Supercapacitors using the technology (Activated Carbon) developed by VSSC.

• In continuation of the above, Government of Kerala approved the proposal for setting up India’s first Supercapacitor Production Facility at Keltron-Kannur at an Investment of Rs.18 Crores in Phase-1 and Rs. 24 Crores in Phase-2 (Total Investment proposed is Rs.42 Crores). The foundation stone for the project was laid by Hon. Chief Minister of Kerala Sri. Pinarayi Vijayan in February 2021. The Phase-1 of the project is completed in January 2024 and commenced pilot production.
